For as excited as I am to leave and experience my new life in Brazil, I am a little nervous to leave my life here. I have great friends, a great family, and a huge appreciation for where I am and how lucky I am to have grown up in Indiana.

Knowing things will be different when I come back, I know I need to get as much time in with people as I can. My goal before I leave is to have had as many experiences with the people I love as I can, because it won't be long until I'm gone.

I am thrilled to have such a nice first host family, they all seem wonderful. My host club is already taking many preparations for my arrival. I am so blessed to have been given so many people that care about me and so many awesome Rotarians that are working hard to make this the best exchange possible.

In preparation I have been learning Portuguese on Duolingo, it's a work in progress but I am getting the basic idea of the language and many vocabulary words in.

I know this will be the best year of my life, I can't wait to see what's to come and how many stories I'll have to share with my friends and family at home.
